Cinematography, Filmmaking, Storytelling
"There's always a theory of where the camera is and why it's there.. we're always thinking about how to get into an emotional state, moment by moment, and how to bring as much of the audience along with us."
Maybe the audience is using their mental empathy network more during that scene simply because they're trying to figure out what the hell is going on. A story should have a beginning, middle and end, though not in that order. Give them the same pleasure they have when they wake up from a nightmare.
The screen is a compelling medium. It has the kind of power that can retain interest as it conveys emotions and moods that no other art form can hope to tackle. A film is - or should be - more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings.
One man writes a novel. One man writes a symphony. It is essential that one man make a film.

However vast the darkness, we must supply our own fire.
